Social Impact Poster
The goal of this project was to create a poster that represented an act of kindness for the “Fight for Kindness” Competition. I leaned into self-love and personal worth as a woman. A woman is worthy of respect when it comes to her body, soul, and mind. My final posted was posted on the official “Fight for Kindness” Instagram as a competition highlight as well as showcased in the Pattee/Paterno Library at Penn State University.
The Color Palette in this project played a huge role in how I executed this design. It was important to me to use the colors of the women’s suffrage movement from 1848-1920.
These colors are purple, gold, and white or cream. These were the colors of the sashes women would wear in these years to fight for their right to vote.
I thought having my project surround this historical movement would give it so much power, reminding the viewer that the rights they fought for then, are still deserved today.
For my original sketches I started with a base sketch similar to that of a mannequin.
In later on sketches I worked with my professors to determine I didn’t want her to appear too objective, so I added on arms in a power stance.
I also decided in later stages of designing her to add hip dips to give her a more human look, and a reminder that women of all sizes and shapes deserve love and respect.
One of the challenges of this project was creating my own type to showcase within this project.
I wanted the type to be very organic and flow within the curves of the woman’s body.
I hand sketched the flow of the words within her body and used that as a reference when implementing it into the actual design.
